Termination – The Employment Equivalent To Capital Punishment

Regardless of your position on the use of capital
punishment in certain criminal cases, the fact remains
that capital punishment ends a life.

In the employment arena, termination ends the “employment
life” of an individual with your organization.

HR CONTRARIAN POINTER: Barring blatant misconduct such as
theft, assault, fraud, etc., an employee should never be
surprised by a termination.

The process you follow to discharge an employee will
largely determine whether you are involved in a lawsuit or
not.

To me, the sign of a good company is the respect and
communication it provides to its least acceptable
employees – the people who are to be fired.
