Making Destructive Comments

To continue with my insights on the book by Marshall
Goldsmith, “What Got You Here Won’t Get You There,” this
week I will be discussing the habit of: making destructive
comments.

We are all tempted to snarl and make critical comments
from time to time.  It is not an issue of whether our
comments are accurate or not, or even whether they are
humorous or not.  It is a question of, “are they worth
saying?”

HR CONTRARIAN POINTER: The children’s verse, “Sticks and
stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me,”
is simply not true.  Words do hurt.  And it’s amazing how
long another person will remember a hurtful comment, a
thoughtless joke, or a snide remark.
